AIHD gathered information from Bangkok Health Volunteers

On 5 October 2021, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana, M.D.; Director of ASEAN Institute for Health Development , Mahidol University and head of the project “Policy Options and Guidelines to Reform and Strengthen the Roles of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) and Bangkok Health Volunteers towards the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapin Laosee, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aroonsri MongkolChati, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheerawit Rattanapan, Asst. Prof. Somsak Wongsawass, Department of Health researchers and AIHD researchers collected research data from Bangkok Health Volunteers who have best practices in Bangkok via Zoom Meeting. This project was funded by Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI).
The lesson learned was applied by the qualitative research method. The data collected from Bangkok Health Volunteers were guidelines for operations and outstanding achievements in health issues such as urban health management, dental health, mental health, breast milk/maternal and child health, surveillance and control of infectious disease, and AIDS. These were according to differences in the work area (urban, semi-urban and rural areas).
During the meeting, participants were allocated into 3 focus groups for interview. Participants were village health volunteers and related officers in the health service system.
The meeting aimed to examine the lessons learned, which reflected problems, solutions, work processes, as well as the success of the work of Village Health Volunteers, in the context of a variety of important health issues. The information acquired will be useful for the analysis of Policy Options and Guidelines to Reform and Strengthen the Roles of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) and Bangkok Health Volunteers towards the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
