ASEAN Institute for Health Development, in collaboration with the Osaka University Institute for Sports & Global Health (OuiSH), Osaka University, Japan, organized a meeting to establish cooperation in developing a Joint Research Unit and Research Projects.

On February 26, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University appointed Assoc. Prof. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations to chair the meeting with Prof. Ken Nakata, Director of Osaka University Institute for Sports & Global Health, and Prof. Daisaku Nakatani, M.D., Director of Division of Global Strategy Promotion on the development of ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Osaka University Institute for Sports & Global Health Joint Research Unit. Researchers and academics from both institutes also attended the meeting to discuss the development of the joint unit and its future endeavors at the Krasae Chanawongse Meeting Room, AIHD, and Online Zoom Meeting. The meeting came to an agreement that the joint research unit should be established as a platform to generate knowledge and implement strategies in the real world settings at the university level. The unit will focus on health-related knowledge generation, particularly on issues such as smoking and obesity, which are key factors leading to mortality in both Thailand and Japan.
