Knowledge exchange meeting to develop tools for collecting research data for the synthesis of policy project to support health volunteers’ roles reforms

The ASEAN Institute of Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University (MU), led by its Director, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana met with the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Dr. Chawin Sirinak, M.D, together with the Public Health System Development Office’s research team; Mr. Chatchai Suwannit, a public health academic specialist, who represented Dr. Panuwat Panket, M.D., Deputy Director-General, Department of Health Service Support, Ministry of Public Health; and a network of 5 Primary Health Care Development Centers on 10 November 2020 at the Ratchaphruek Conference rm. AIHD, MU Salaya. The meeting was also available online via ZOOM. AIHD organized the meeting to exchange knowledge regarding the development of research tools to be used for data collection for the “Alternative Synthesis of Policy proposals to support Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers’ roles reforms towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” research project headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana.Also present during the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr.Sakda Arj-ong Vallibhakara, M.D., AIHD Deputy Director for Research, Innovation, and Academic Services; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheeravit Rattanapan, Head of Sub-Project 1; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Head of Sub-Project 2; Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapin Laosee, Head of Sub-Project 3; Asst. Prof. Somsak Wongsawass; and AIHD research personnel. The meeting participants have provided essential recommendations to modify the discussion questions for the health volunteers’ groups and groups involved in the health services system. Questions are divided into 4 sets of questions covering the health volunteers' roles, capacity development system, systems support, and 3 personal doctor policy, with emphasis on the questions regarding the volunteers’ roles. The study focused mainly on the roles of the Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers and 3 personal doctor policy using preliminary findings from the synthesis of systematic literary reviews on policies and support systems of all health volunteers’ groups. The research team will use the outcomes of the adjustments made to the research tools for field testing set on 26 November 2020, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, at the Salaya Sub-District, Phutthamonthon District, Nakhon Pathom.
