Background and Rationale
The 10
th
Anniversary of the ASEAN University Network - Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN)
Date : 3 December 2024
The ASEAN University Network - Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) was established in 2014 as a thematic network under the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Over the past decade, AUN-HPN has played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among universities and individuals across the ASEAN region, all united by a shared commitment to advancing health promotion and creating a healthier society. As a regional network, AUN-HPN has successfully bridged the gap between academia and the broader community, facilitating research, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives that address pressing health challenges in the region.
In 2024, we proudly celebrate the 10th anniversary of AUN-HPN's establishment. This milestone event not only honors the network's achievements over the past decade but also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the journey ahead. To mark this special occasion, we will convene the 10th anniversary of AUN-HPN's establishment back-to-back with the annual AUN-HPN International Advisory Committee meeting, bringing together key stakeholders and thought leaders to discuss the future direction of health promotion in the ASEAN region.
The AUN-HPN has been instrumental in promoting the role of higher education in health promotion, with Mahidol University in Thailand currently convening the Network. The success of the network relies on the advisory support from member universities of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), ensuring that programs are effectively implemented to benefit both member and non-member universities, as well as the ASEAN community at large.
To further strengthen the Network, the AUN-HPN International Advisory Committee was established, inviting AUN member universities to nominate representatives to join. The Committee’s role is to provide a conceptual framework, guidance, and strategic direction for the AUN-HPN’s work plan.
The AUN-HPN International Advisory Committee (IAC) meeting is held annually, with the aim of enhancing collaboration and advancing health promotion efforts across the ASEAN region.

AIHD International Forum
"Synergizing Global Health, Primary Health Care, and Health Promotion for a Sustainable Future"
Date : 4 December 2024
Primary health care and health promotion have been recognized by the international community as the key elements to reorient health care and services to be more equitable, affordable, and effective. Nonetheless, promoting coverage in terms of services and quality of care for primary health care and health promotion is challenged by social determinants of health and commercial determinants of health that indirectly influence the health and well-being of the people. Therefore, endeavors to ensure the coverage of primary health care and health promotion require inclusiveness of partners from the non-health sector to sustainably enable good governance and practice to encourage “health for all”.
Though Thailand is globally recognized for its success in implementing primary health care, the dynamicity of global context ranging from geopolitical conflicts to climate change usher the needs for the country to look into future opportunities and threats that can affect the sustainability of primary health care and health promotion. Therefore, ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University organizes an international forum under the title “Synergizing Global Health, Primary Health Care, and Health Promotion for a Sustainable Future” in light of sharing state of the arts in primary health care and health promotion as well as future directions that Thailand may pioneering to create model of sustainable health for all.
