ชื่องานวิจัย: Assessment tools predicting fitness-to-drive in the old taxi drivers: a screening measure for future road safety directions
คณะ/สาขาวิชา: สถาบันพัฒนาสุขภาพอาเซียน
ที่มาและความสำคัญ: "The proportion of elderly drivers has long been increasing, and will continue to grow in the oncoming decades. The new generation of elderly differs from previous generations. The elderly today are more likely to keep their driving licenses, possess a car and travel more kilometers than previous generations. Especially, elderly with access to a vehicle have been found to increase their number of trips after retirement. Although older drivers adhere to safe driving practices, their increased risk for injury or death in motor vehicle crashes stem from age-related declines in visual, cognitive, motor, and other sensory functions that impact their ability to drive safely. Age-related factors impacting older adults’ fitness to drive include the ability to control a vehicle while conforming to the rules of the road and obeying traffic laws, declines in vision and reaction times, and decreased function in reasoning and recall. Furthermore, taxi drivers play an important role in the provision of public transport services and security. Therefore, in many developed countries where in-person license renewal policies were included for safety benefits of older drivers."
