On September 15, 2025, the ASEAN Institute for Health Development had the honor of organizing a meeting with the Faculty of Medical Technology, the College of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University, and the Osaka University Institute for Sports and Global Health (OuiSH). The collaborative meeting focused on strengthening research and academic partnerships to support and advance the Healthy University initiative.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of ASEAN Institute for Health Development, assigned Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations, to chair the meeting on developing the proposal for the “Osaka-Mahidol Joint Research Centre for Global Health Innovations (OMC-GHI)” via Zoom.
The meeting was honored by the participation of Asst. Prof. Dr.Chotiros Plabplueng, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wilasinee Jeungprasopsuk, Deputy Dean for Finance and Assets, the Faculty of Medical Technology, Asst. Prof. Dr. Parunchaya Jamkrajang, Deputy Dean for Research, Academic Service & International Relations, College of Sports Science and Technology, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Areekul Amornsriwatanakul, in collaborate with the representatives from the Osaka University Institute for Sports and Global Health (OuiSH), led by Prof. Ken Nakata, MD., PhD, Director of the Osaka University Institute for Sports and Global Health, Prof. Daisaku Nakatani, MD, Director of the Division of Global Strategy Promotion, and Dr. Rie Ogasawara, Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Human Sciences.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of the Joint Research Centre for Global Health Innovations and to clearly define the scope of research on global health and well-being. Moreover, during the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool presented a conceptual framework of Global Health Governance and highlighted the challenges in advancing global health governance, such as policy-making processes for setting global health policies, translating policies into practice, and addressing pressing global health issues. The meeting also proposed directions for collaborative work, focusing on research in physical activity promotion and the development of global health policies, based on stakeholder engagement and with an emphasis on local contexts.
