ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD) has participated in a project to advance maternal and child health systems in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, under the support of the Lancang–Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, People’s Republic of China.

On 28 November 2025, AIHD, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jukkrith Wungrath was invited by the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, to serve as an advisor to the project “Enhancing Health Facilities and Strengthening Healthcare Professionals to Provide Mother and Child Health Promotion in Cross-Border Lancang–Mekong Countries (Phase II)”, funded by the Lancang–Mekong Cooperation Special Fund of the People’s Republic of China. The project aims to strengthen maternal and child health services in primary healthcare facilities, and to improve environmental health systems—including access to safe water and the management of infectious waste—in health centers and district hospitals in Bokeo Province, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and in Viet Nam. Its overarching goal is to enhance health and quality of life, address maternal and child health issues, reduce maternal and child mortality, and increase the rate of safe deliveries. The project is implemented through the collaboration of multiple organizations, including: • ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University • International Collaboration Center, Department of Health • Health Center Region 1, Chiang Mai • Center for Ethnic Communities, Migrant Workers, and Marginalized Populations • International Dental Public Health Center • Suansaranrom Hospital, Department of Mental Health • Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Chiang Mai, Praboromarajchanok Institute The initiative also receives strong cooperation from partner government agencies in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. This project represents a significant step forward in advancing regional health cooperation in the Lancang–Mekong area, ensuring that all mothers and children receive safe, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare services.
