Presentation of the alternative synthesis project and policy proposal to support reforms of village health volunteers’ role

A team from the ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University, M.D., presented the research project “The alternative synthesis and policy proposal to support the reforms of Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers’ roles towards the achievement of sustainable development goals” to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Health Department headed by its Director-General, Mr. Chawin Sirinak on 30 September 2020 at the Thani Nopparat Bldg., Bangkok City Hall 2.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana, Director of AIHD and Head of “The alternative synthesis and policy proposal to support the reforms of Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers’ roles towards the achievement of sustainable development goals” research project, led the AIHD team composed of Asst. Prof. Dr. Vijj Kasemsup, M.D.: AIHD Deputy Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj AIHD lecturer, and the AIHD research team.
During the meeting, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana presented the project’s value and its importance. Included in the presentation were policy recommendations for senior executives of government agencies, particularly those engaged in public health. These policy recommendations aim to support reforms on Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers’ roles in providing primary health services and information on research processes. The reforms focus on creating community participation in the field to provide guidance and further develop the Village Health Volunteers and Public Health Volunteers’ roles in the future.
Both the AIHD and the BMA Health Department agreed on the role and participation of BMA in the conduct of the research and in determining the research areas and target groups during the implementation of the said research project in Bangkok. They have also exchanged ideas on the synthesis of research results and guidelines of collaboration with the research teams in reinforcing social and academic driving force to help sustain the development of health volunteers.
