May 19, 2025 – The ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, commenced the Residency Program for Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Global Health Leadership for students from the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Indiana University, USA.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanwadee Suksaroj, Director of the Institute, who welcomed Prof. Dr. Suzanne M. Babich, Director of the Global Health Leadership DrPH Program, Prof. Rohit Ramaswamy from the Department of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati and Adjunct Professor at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, along with a group of 32 doctoral students from Indiana University. The event took place at the Pol.Gen.Dr. Jongjate Aojanepong Conference Room, Siriwattanapakdee Building, Mahidol University, Salaya, where the delegation was warmly received by the Institute’s executive team and faculty members.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanwadee highlighted the significance of the program as a platform for knowledge and experience exchange in public health policy between Thailand and the United States. The program emphasizes learning about Thailand’s health system and policies, including healthcare services for migrant workers, challenges in border areas, medical innovations, and the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme. Participants will also have opportunities to engage with Thai public health experts to explore successful health system development practices.
The training is scheduled from May 19–23, 2025, with the objective of promoting in-depth learning and analysis of geopolitical characteristics and their impact on health systems, as well as health system management in areas with intense economic activity and high population mobility. Participants will also take part in field visits to Chonburi and Rayong provinces to gain firsthand experience from local health service providers and exchange knowledge with healthcare professionals in the field—fostering long-term international collaboration.
